Hello brothers of SR-1B! My name is Matthew Gent and I’m the current section officer for High Adventure! I’m writing this letter to tell you about high adventure and how OA also helps high adventure. First off, there are four high adventures in the BSA and they are Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, and The Summit. Philmont is located in the village of Cimarron, New Mexico and offers premier hiking trails and various other activities. Northern Tier is located in the boundary waters between the U.S. and Canada and focuses on canoeing. Sea Base is located down in the Florida Keys and offers sailing and scuba diving. The final high adventure base is The Summit. The summit is a huge outdoor facility located in West Virginia that now permanently hosts the BSA’s National Jamboree and the World Scout Jamboree will be held there in 2019. The Summit offers many great experiences like zip line, canopy tours, white water rafting, and so much more.

What all these high adventure bases have in common is that they all provide experiences that last a lifetime and you can go to all of them through the OA by doing OA High Adventure!! OA High Adventure is a program that allows you to go to all of these High Adventure Bases at a reduced price! In return, you spend one week working on whatever the High Adventure Base needs and the next week you actually get to enjoy the High Adventure Base just like any other visiting scout would!

OA High Adventure is a great way to be able to enjoy the High Adventure Bases and also at the same time serve them with cheerful service just like the OA does to perfection. I will leave links below to the High Adventure Bases that you can check out and get more information from. I hope to see you all soon at Section Seminar as Scott Hughes, my advisor, and I will go more in depth about High Adventure!

Yours in Scouting, Matthew Gent
